Meet Dr. Chen, Ophthalmologist, Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon

Valerie H. Chen, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has completed a highly regarded American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) two-year fellowship. As a highly skilled ophthalmic plastic surgeon, Dr. Chen rounds out Providence Eye’s commitment to providing procedures to improve people's vision and lifestyle.

Dr. Chen’s passion for both the science and art of ophthalmic plastic surgery, along with her kind and approachable bedside manner, makes her a perfect addition to the Providence Eye team.

Prior to joining Providence Eye, Dr. Chen was at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where, as a practicing physician she held the title of Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology in the section of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Chen: Planting Roots to Become a Charlottean

After many years of medical training that took her from Chicago to Atlanta to Albany, NY to Raleigh, Dr. Chen is very excited to set roots down in Charlotte, NC! Being part of the Providence Eye team enables Dr. Chen to do what she does best, help patients improve their field of vision, and in many instances, their self-confidence. Dr. Chen lives in South Charlotte with her husband Trey and their daughter Lucy. When not working Dr. Chen enjoys tennis, singing and traveling, but mostly just spending time with her husband and daughter.
